Africa Trade Show

The Africa Trade Show is a 3-day event held at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd. This unique event which begins on Friday, September 2nd and runs through September 4th, can offer meaningful opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses and African Diaspora-owned businesses to discuss trade and investment opportunities with the emerging nations of Africa. Africa Trade Show is excited to organize this unique event and invites participation as an exhibitor, vendor or sponsor and the opportunity to provide a venue for you to network with businesses and investors through business to business and business to government models. Beginning with a free Breakfast Prayer service, sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento, and concluding with a Cultural Parade and VIP Dinner Awards ceremony, this event cannot be missed.

SacAnime 2016 Convention

The SacAnime Convention returns again this year to the Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J Street. The convention runs from September 2nd through September 4th. SacAnime is the “pop culture convention with the anime twist” where “fans come to play.” Its philosophy has always been to provide fun, safe, family-friendly environment, with top shelf entertainment at a reasonable price.

SacAnime began as an extension of our quarterly Comic, Toy and Anime Show (SAC-CON), which has been running in Sacramento since July 1, 1986. Originally a strictly comic book show, SAC-CON has grown to encompass all forms of pop-culture entertainment, with a large emphasis on anime and manga. Admission Friday or Sunday is $30 or Saturday, $45.

Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento

From September 3rd through September 5th, the streets of Sacramento “turn back the clock” to the Gold Rush era, transforming Sacramento’s 28-acre historic district into a scene straight out of the 1850s. Costumed performers portray historical figures, personalities and just plain folks, bringing history to life while old-timey musicians perform on multiple stages, evoking the vivid tunes and sounds of the times. 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Admission is free.

California Craft Beer Festival 2016

The California Craft Brewers Association’s (CCBA) signature event, the California Craft Beer Summit and Beer Festival, returns to Sacramento for the second year in a row. The hands-on craft beer experience will take place in downtown Sacramento, September 8-10, and includes educational events, receptions and the largest beer festival in the state, featuring 400 rare and specialty beers crafted by California breweries.

The Summit brings together top brewing talent in the state, scores of homebrewers, beer enthusiasts and industry professionals to taste and learn over this three day event. Built on the success of last year’s summit, the event includes two days for industry networking and education, with everything from a job center to a distributor workshop, and one day focused on craft beer lovers and homebrewers, featuring coffee, food, judging and homebrewing techniques.

The 2016 California Craft Beer Summit and Beer Festival will include:

  • Interactive experiences, including hands-on brewing techniques, ingredient-based displays and regional tastings
  • Tailored educational sessions for beer lovers, homebrewers and industry members, from how to start a career in craft beer, to how to build a beer list, to the history of the West Coast IPA
  • Food and beer pairings and chef demos
  • “Tap Talks” with famed brewers and leaders in the craft beer industry
  • A premier tasting experience for California craft beer at the Summit Beer Festival on the steps of the state Capitol

The three-day event will culminate on Capitol Mall at the Summit Beer Festival, the largest California craft beer festival, featuring more than 150 small, large and specialty breweries from across California.

Sacramento Play Summit

Play is the most important work of childhood. The fourth annual Sacramento Play Summit, presented by Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Public Library, aims to highlight the importance of play, the many types of play, ways to incorporate play in daily and school life, and more.

Keynote speakers include Lenore Skenazy, author, blogger and founder of Free Range Kids; Jim Valley, award-winning musician; and Dr. Olivia Kasirye, public health officer for Sacramento County. Franchise Expo Fall 2016

Farm Tank 2016

The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Farm-to-Fork program, Food Tank and the University of California, Davis, present a new, two day summit exploring key issues that impact our global food system. Join industry experts from across the country at this exciting event in America’s Farm-to-Fork capital. The event will feature interactive panels moderated by top food journalists, networking, and delicious food, followed by a day of hands-on activities and opportunities for attendees.

Hear from farmers, chefs, business owners, government officials and more during riveting panel discussions at the Industry Panels on September 22nd. Then on September 23rd, get your boots dirty during day long excursions to regional farms, ranches, food banks, restaurants, suppliers and other industry sites. Tours will showcase how the Sacramento area can serve as a model for the rest of the country.

This is the third in a series of four two-day Summits in 2016 which will bring together some the world’s most impactful food system leaders. Earlier this year, the Washington, D.C.
